Dauntless: A Book Talk with Marie Vallejo In-Person
ABOUT THE EVENT:
Filipino-American History Month is celebrated annually every October of the year in the United States to commemorate the first-ever recorded arrival of Filipinos in the continental U.S. The celebration is vital to recognize the contributions of Filipino-Americans in shaping the history and culture of the U.S.
Part of the celebration is a book talk featuring the book titled Dauntless by Marie Silva Vallejo. The book is about a special unit of Filipinos in the US Army in World War II, which went on top-secret missions behind enemy lines.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Marie Silva Vallejo has a degree in Education and pursued graduate studies in Psychology. Her corporate life was in Data Security and Internal Audit at Intel Corporation in California. She authored The Battle of Ising, a WWII battle for the liberation of Mindanao. She was on the board of the American Historical Collection in Manila. She spearheaded the scanning of the Guerrilla Recognition Program files in the Philippine Archives Collection at the U.S. National Records and Administration (NARA) that began the Philippine Veterans Administration Office's (PVAO) mission to scan the entire Collection and make it available online to show the Filipinos' contribution to WWII history.

Roana Marie Flores is an academic service faculty at De La Salle University, Manila, and is currently working as an Associate American Corner Librarian. She has been a dynamic library and information science (LIS) practitioner for over seven years with experience in school, academic, and the National Library of the Philippines. Her work experience comprises event management, information literacy, public relations and marketing, community outreach, and social and cultural services aimed at people from all walks of life, especially the underserved population. She has presented to various local and international conferences and has been actively publishing research works in reputable journals. Her research interests include library programming, inclusivity and diversity, and library management.
