SESSION 2: Surviving Cancer

SESSION 2: Surviving Cancer In-Person

By Jocelyn Ladlad

Jocelyn Ladlad, affectionately known as “Jo” or “Jolad,” began her career immersed in the world of education and information. She worked as a school librarian and teacher, an engaging and committed advocate of literacy and lifelong learning.  Jo later transitioned to an academic and research-focused role in the library at De La Salle University. She served as an academic and research librarian, actively contributing to faculty and student support, as well as engaging in professional activities through organizations like PNU LISSAA, ASLP, and PLAI‑NCR.

In 2010, Jo faced a deeply personal challenge when she was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Through advocacy, faith, and support from loved ones, she triumphed over the disease and was celebrated for her positive spirit and resilience by peers in the librarianship community

Following her retirement from DLSU, Jo embraced a meaningful second career: serving as a librarian at the Bantayog ng mga Bayani Library in Quezon City. The Bantayog Library plays a vital role in preserving documents, books, and oral histories related to Martial Law and the Filipino struggle for democracy. Her work continues to support researchers, educators, and the public in remembering the sacrifices and lessons of the past.
